“A SEMPRE guidebook is not here to offer lists, but feelings. Or a mood, and feelings, plural. A sense that makes you want to go out and see it for yourself. That’s exactly my goal. I could have written a more traditional recollection, but that has been done many times, and this city deserves much more than that. Firenze is discreet, but she lets herself open up. She’ll take your hand and lead you to what is genuinely important. She is exciting, confident, romantic, complex, and so alive. So I invite you, my dear reader, to dive in headfirst. Research, and explore the smallest of details that even I haven’t touched upon—the moments that become a part of you. Because that’s the whole purpose of travelling, isn’t it?”- Kata

After finishing our first guidebook about Napoli last year, we began planning the second issue, as we had always envisioned SEMPRE as a series about Italy. This time, we wanted to show you a different part of the country—one that would contrast with the buzzing, chaotic energy of a southern city. That’s how we ended up spending a large part of 2025 in Firenze.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Choosing Florence as the “main character” of the second guide came naturally—rooted in the travel memories of Eszter and Ákos, our wonderful project manager–designer couple. Kata began exploring the city in January and has returned many times since, working on the text between two travel sessions.

After endless walks and research, countless tasting sessions, long conversations with locals, and interviews with the key figures featured in the book, we can truly say—straight from the heart—that we are ready to share with you our unique impressions and carefully curated ‘what and where’ selection for Firenze.

Together with Botond Wertán, we organized photo trips in March and June to create the visual material for the book, carefully defining the city’s tone and color palette. Levente Csordás contributed his gorgeous illustrations – as he did for the Napoli edition – and Ákos Komlovszky adapted the SEMPRE image to match the personality of Firenze.

While creating this book we also took interviews with the key figures highlighted in this book (like Biscottificio Antonio Mattei, Vivoli, Todo Modo, Dalla Lola or Pitti Uomo).
